A look inside the brain of a man who loves music.
Wow that was some adventure to Chicago to see Sonic Youth. I left at 11:30AM on friday and returned home at 6:05AM saturday morning. I was on the road WHILE the sun was coming up, crazy. I now pretty much know all the ins and outs of the CTA train system in Chicago. Oh and I also know where everything is in the O'Hare Airport. W. Randolph St. in Chicago is a really long street and we walked almost the entire street to get to Union Park. We encountered many street musicians, fellow Sonic Youth fans, many people eating at restaurants on the streets of chicago (I almost wanted to steal some bread of a persons plate, it was weird). The worlds smallest KFC/Taco Bell restaurant is right by Union Park, and possibly the grossest restaurant I have ever been too.
Now for the actual show - The band was very energetic and looked like they were having a ton of fun. Daydream Nation sounded great, but the encore was the highlight of the night - 3 songs from Rather Ripped, including my favorite Sonic Youth song Jams Run Free and to top it all off Mark Ibold joined the band on stage to play bass on the 3 encore songs - Mark Ibold was the bassist for the legendary indie rock band Pavement for those of you who don't know. All in all this trip was one that I will never forget due to the epic performance and the craziness that is the city of Chicago.
Back to bed now.
