A look inside the brain of a man who loves music.
Stay tuned for reviews of the following albums:
She & Him: Volume Two
The Poison Control Center: Sad Sour Future
Real Estate: Self-Titled
PAS/CAL: the Three EP's
The past few days have heralded some fo the best live music I have ever had the chance to see. The Wheelers from Cedar Rapids/Kansas City/Ames played a furocious set as part of the Mission Creek Music Festival in Iowa City, Iowa this past Wednesday. Their set was filled with loud fuzz and an amazing rhythm section. The three new tunes they debuted in Iowa City sounded tight and are a step in the right direction for the best fuzz rock band this side of the mississippi.
Last night at the Mill in Iowa City felt like heaven on earth. How does this lineup even come about? The Poison Control Center, Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, Headlights and David Bazan??? almost sounds too good to be true. So glad it actually was true.
Also so glad I arrived early to witness the arrival and soundcheck of the Poison Control Center. The members of the PCC are the nicest, coolest bunch of dudes any fan could ask for. Their set was one for the ages.
Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps were a pleasant surprise, but served as somewhat of an intermission for my super stacked show of bands that I cherish. Her songs were carefully arranged and her backing band was incredible.
Headlights are true professionals and I love it. They put on an amazing show every time and last night was no different. They always play a good variety of songs from each of their 3 and 1/2 albums. They never look bored on stage and that is what i love about them.
David Bazan is a god. His backing band are some of the most talented musicians ever. His set left me speechless and I am glad i was able to be there with two of my best friends and fellow Bazan/Pedro/Headphones enthusiasts: David and Phil.
Camera Obscura rapidly approaches and I can't wait.
Best vacation ever.
